Celine Wessels – street art sheep

    "Humoristisch
Humorously and realistically painted sheep by Celine Wessels.

This work is actually a parody of the usually brightly colored butts of sheep that can be found in meadows at the end of autumn in the Dutch landscapes. During that period, stud rams are released on the ewes while they carry a kind of stamp pad (a so-called stud block) under their bellies. This allows the farmer to see who has already been covered and who has not.

In itself this is quite a practical and funny event. However, Celine has given this event another twist by providing the sheep with graffiti of a human mouth.

This creates a satirical and humorous image of this rather practical and everyday solution. In terms of theme, the work borders on magical realism.

By depicting the sheep with power and in a beautifully detailed manner, it is also a tribute to animals and nature.
Artist: Celine Wessels (1999)

Bio:

Celine Wessels (1999) graduated from the ArtEZ School of the Arts in Zwolle. She then published the picture book “Lucky Purple Pop” together with Fabian Franciscus. She is inspired by nature and human behavior. Because reality comes to her in her own unique way, she knows how to catch everyday life in a different way. Many people will not immediately think about the things that really speak to her. Her work is further characterized by beautifully layered humorous winks, playfulness and the quest for (self)acceptance. Her style borders on magical realism, but can better be described as ‘humorous realism’.
